What are Nicotine Salts Eliquids?

Nicotine salts are not actually a salt by appearance or consistency but are in fact named from the scientific definition of salt. In chemistry a salt is the result from an acid reacting with a base, so in the case of Nicotine Salts they will mix the commonly found Nicotine base with an acid to produce the salt form of nicotine. This definitely sounds nefarious but the salt form of nicotine is what is present in tobacco, so if you've ever smoked in the past you've had salt nicotine!

Nicotine Vs. Nicotine Salt

The nicotine that has previously been used in the vape industry is often referred to as Freebase Nicotine and can be created by extracting nicotine from tobacco leaves or sometimes even certain vegetables (Tomato, eggplants, potatoes and even certain peppers contain nicotine!). This form of nicotine often has a very high alkalinity which results in the vapour becoming very harsh at higher nicotine concentrations.

Nicotine Salt e-liquid is mixed with specific acids to reduce the PH level of the end product which results in a much smoother vaping experience and allows people to go to much higher nicotine concentrations then we've commonly found in the past. 

Why use Nicotine Salts?

Well first of all Salt Nicotine has a much higher blood absorption rate than Freebase Nicotine. This means from the moment you use your device you will often feel the nicotine hit your body much quicker and receive the satisfaction you may be missing from tradition cigarettes. This is often helpful for customers who are just making the transition from smoking to vaping as Freebase Nicotine can take a little while before it fully absorbs into your body.

The other benefit to Salt Nicotine is more preference related. Not everyone wants to make large vape clouds or carry around a bulky device. The higher concentration of Nicotine available with Salt Nicotine liquids allows you to receive a higher concentration of nicotine without the need to produce a large amount of vapour. This gives the ability to have very small devices with minimal vapour output while still maintaining the needed nicotine for the individual person. Salt Nicotine liquids are best paired with Pod Systems and other mouth-to-lung devices.
